Ahhh a great American holiday: surrounded by family and friends, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, American football and a FANTASTIC meal.
Now I now that a lot of people think that Thanksgiving is all about us Americans being thankful that we are no longer under British rule, but that is not the case (that is the 4th of July :p). Thanksgiving is about being thankful for your family, friends and all the good things in your life.
A few years ago, before I moved to the UK, my mother and I started spending Thanksgiving with a group of low income retirees. We would cook dinner for everyone and then sit down to a nice meal. I use to enjoy listening to them while they told stories about when they were younger. Then roll my eyes when they started complaining about life now and how expensive everything is.
Now that I live here in the UK I really miss the Thanksgiving Holiday. It makes me a little homesick. Calls to my family and friends to wish them a great day and to hear that they are gathering together to celebrate makes me wish that I could join them.
Another great tradition this time of year occurs tomorrow. The Biggest Shopping Day of the year is of course the Friday after Thanksgiving. A lot of my friends will be getting up at 5:00 tomorrow morning to be one of the first few people in a store in order to save some money on Christmas gifts. It seems this year with the Global Financial Crisis everyone is shopping for sales.
However to avoid the crowds, isn’t it amazing that now you don’t actually have to go to the stores to buy gifts. You can complete a lot of your shopping online. You can get just about anything you would like, including those hard to find items, from the internet. If you want to save more money, go to RewardPig.com and you will see that your able to receive a lot of items by just completing a few offers at a fraction of the item’s actual cost. For example the new must have Elmo Live and the Nintendo Wii Fit.
So, in closing, I’d like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Why don’t you go back one thanksgiving year?
happy thanks giving to you.
Hopefully maybe next year. We are going back for Chrismtas and New Years which will be nice. Thanks!!
